the first analysis of Estoril de Verssimo :: zerozero.pt

Estoril presented itself this Sunday to its members and fans in front of Fulham. The duel ended with a 1-3 victory for the Londoners and the main highlights of the match even belonged to Marco Silva’s team – Straw, Mitrovic and Antonee Robinson were in evidence. However, this was also the first more serious sample of the new Estoril and the zero zero took the opportunity to make a first analysis.

The canaries, remember, changed coaches during the pre-season and even saw important players leave, such as Bruno Lourenço, Rui Fonte, João Gamboa or Carles Soria. In this first “more serious” show, about two weeks before the start of the season, Estoril failed to win and revealed clear difficulties in defensive dead balls (first two goals came from a corner) and in pressure.

The team kept the identity that it already had in the short ball and in the attempt to play supported and not everything was bad, not even close. In addition to the fact that it is perfectly normal that the team is still not at its best level, because the squad is not closed, but there is the idea that more reinforcements will be needed to replace the important players who left the club. Let’s go to the individual analysis!

the reinforcements

  • Filipe Amorim / Kapta +

Pedro Alvaro: The 22-year-old central defender, despite being young, seems to have everything to be the boss of the Estorilista defensive, not least because Veríssimo already knows him well from the time of Benfica. Pedro Álvaro didn’t make an impressive display, but he stood out for his safety and regularity, both in defending and in passing the ball, in which he rarely risked, but also didn’t make a mistake.

  • Filipe Amorim / Kapta +

Tiago Araújo: Without Joãozinho, possibly the owner of the place, it was Tiago Araújo who occupied the position of left-back, which he already knows well, despite his natural position being that of winger. He grew throughout the match and left a good impression with the ball, both in his ability to pass long and in the exchange of the ball with his teammates in inner zones.

  • Filipe Amorim / Kapta +

Rodrigo Martins: The 23-year-old winger played from the left of the attacking front, but he was not able to show what made him one of the great highlights of the last Segunda Liga. Rodrigo Martins was also harmed by the little ball that the team had in offensive zones and managed to show the will to do more, but ended up having a poor performance, having also missed an easy goal in the final stretch.

  • Filipe Amorim / Kapta +

John Carlos: Yes, we know that João Carlos is not a reinforcement, but it turns out to be a novelty, considering that he spent the last season on loan to Académica. In this match, the top scorer of the last Segunda Liga did not leave a good impression, having completely missed the match. It is important to mention that he didn’t have the ball much because of the team’s fault and not so much because of his own fault. Elias Achouri is in a similar position to João Carlos in the squad, but he played little time for a fair analysis.

  • Filipe Amorim / Kapta +

Goncalo Esteves: It lasted about 15 minutes, a very short sample, but in which it was possible to see Gonçalo Esteves in his style: very participative, projected and without fear of going up, whether from one or several opponents. Now, all of this can be virtues or problems, depending, above all, on the decision-making capacity, perhaps the most important point to evolve during this loan season at Estoril.

  • Mor Ndiaye and James Léa-Siliki: If it was already difficult to observe Gonçalo Esteves, who came in for a short time, but immediately got into the game, analyzing Mor Ndiaye and James Léa-Siliki was practically impossible given the short sample.

Young people

  • Filipe Amorim / Kapta +

Tiago Santos: Contrary to what could be expected, it was not Gonçalo Esteves, but rather Tiago Santos as the right-back and it was a good surprise. We can start with the less good side: he showed defensive weaknesses typical of someone who has also played as a winger in the past, having been easily passed, for example, on the third goal. However, he showed technical quality to spaces and projected himself whenever he could, having been one of the best in his team. A good example of this is the penalty kick, in which he unmarked himself very well and managed to deceive an opponent.

  • Bernardo Vital: Alongside Pedro Álvaro, Bernardo Vital played, who was already part of the squad last season, but is still only 21 years old and that was noticed in his performance. The quality is there, as was shown, for example, in a great cut over Mitrovic, but, unlike his colleague in position, Vital is a player who takes more risks, especially when leaving the ball, which led to several mistakes in this chapter.
  • Serginho and Benchimol: The two young Estorilistas entered close to the end, but it was not possible to understand what they could add taking into account the time of the sample.
