Pre-orders for the Tesla Roadster are open, but at what price?

Tesla has finally opened reservations for its Roadster, which will be produced at the new Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The amount of the pre-order is likely to make more than one cough!

The new Tesla Roadster will be produced from 2023 at the Giga Texas factory in Austin. It is the realization of a dream for some, since Elon Musk considers his Roadster quite simply as “the fastest vehicle in the world, boasting record acceleration, range and performance.”

Indeed, on paper, although no technical details filter, the figures announced have something to delight the most electro-skeptics in terms of sportsmanship. The 0 to 100 km/h would be achieved in 2.1 s, the top speed is estimated at 400 km/h, the 400 m standing start would be crossed in 8.8 s and the torque would amount to 10,000 Nm. Properly mind-blowing figures that make the Tesla Roadster the equivalent of the most powerful hypercars in the world. In addition, its four-wheel drive architecture carries four adults and autonomy is announced for 1,000 km.

The problem is that it is not yet known exactly what customers will have to pay in the end.

In the United States, two down payments are required: $5,000 is due directly at time of order and $45,000 must be transferred within 10 days. “Reservations are only valid once we have received the bank transfer”says Tesla.

In France, the Tesla site specifies: “Roadster reservations require a deposit of €4,000 to be paid by credit card, and a second payment of €39,000 to be paid by bank transfer within 10 days. Reservations are not final until payment by bank transfer is has not been received.” In China, pre-orders are also possible after a deposit of 332&nbsp000&nbspyuan (48&nbsp200&nbsp€). Tesla nevertheless specifies that these deposits are fully refundable.

Pre-orders for the Tesla Roadster are open

The final cost of the Roadster&nbsp2 does not appear clearly on the pre-order pages, however. When Tesla introduced the second generation of the Roadster in 2017, a “Founders Edition” could be pre-ordered for $250,000 (around €230,000), but back then the entire amount had to be transferred at once.

The Austin Gigafactory aims to produce 500&nbsp000&nbspModel&nbspY per year. At the opening ceremony, Elon Musk said “that in 2023 the plant would also build the Cybertruck, the Semi and the Roadster.” Case to follow!
